Buying childrens toys for the holiday season

Buying childrens toys for the holiday season

When Christmas time draws near the sales of toys increases significantly and most toy companies make use of this to flood the market with new toys to attract children. While the vast majority of toys in the market are more a marketing ploy that adds very little to a childs development there are some toys that are beneficial to a childs development. Parents need to learn how to navigate through the toy department to find childrens toys that actually contribute positively to their childrens development and enrich their play.

Instead buying the latest gimmick toy on in the market parents should shop around and try to find toys that are educational and developmentally appropriate for their children. Childrens toys should be age appropriate and they should in some way contribute to a child gaining skills in cognition, motor- coordination, creativity, and imagination. Since play is a huge part of development parents should use toys as tool to help their children gain the skills they require for the future. Toys that are created specifically to challenge and foster these skills are ideal Christmas presents for children.

Since quite a lot of money is spent on toys parents should make sure that the toys they purchase are made well and produced using high quality materials. Some toy makers and brands take a lot of trouble to ensure that the toys are made with non-toxic raw materials and that they are sturdy and durable. While major toy stores will stock toys from a wide range of toy companies without much thought as to the beneficial value of the childrens toys they sell, some smaller toy vendors sell toys that are crafted specifically with a childs development in mind. Parents should avoid going to the first childrens toy store they see. Instead, they should shop around, especially online, to find a store that caters to their childrens developmental needs. A store that supplies toys that are made with quality in mind as well as serves some educational or developmental purpose to children should be a parents first choice.

Childrens toys such as puzzles, blocks, pretend play toys, arts and craft games and toys are all great choices for Christmas presents. These types of toys develop cognition, fine motor coordination, visual perception, creativity, imagination and social skills. Different toys target different skills and are made for different ages groups so parents should choose toys that are age appropriate.

Through play, a child can learn so much and practice and fine tune the skills that they need to develop in a fun and multi-sensory way. It is a parents job to provide their children with the correct tools to aide development by buying toys that are educational.

How To Teach Preschool Kids Analytical Skills

How To Teach Preschool Kids Analytical Skills

Kids are born curious. Even as babies, they are fascinated by the world around them. When I was pregnant, the midwife who conducted the prenatal course related a story a baby she helped deliver. The moment the baby’s head popped out of her mother’s body, the infant looked around the room with wide open eyes, eager to take in her new surroundings. She wasn’t officially born yet, not until the next push anyway.

Babies are eager to learn, as are preschool kids. This is the time to teach them to think. To analyze and deduce things for themselves. Don’t keep spoonfeeding them. Challenge them with puzzles which they have to figure out on their own.

As soon as the child can sit up, get him or her stacking rings and let him or her play with them. A favourite toy I had as a child was a box with holes to fit different shapes all around it. Shape sorting is a math-related skill that helps a child develop his or her analytical skills.

Then there are television programs. Some are actually very educational. As a child, my favourite was Sesame Street. When my kids came along, they were hooked too. We’d watch Elmo and the gang as they learn about letters and numbers in the show. It is a great show for literacy. Especially with its focus on phonetics.

Still, when it comes to analytical skill, I think Blues Clues is the best. My kids love guessing what Blue is up to. Although meant for preschool kids, even my older kids enjoyed the show. Basically, guessing games and treasure hunts with one clue leading to the next and puzzles are great ways to hone a child’s analytical skills. Kids with more exposure to such games will have an edge over their peers when it comes to Math and Science subjects in school.

Childrens Party Take-home Bags

Childrens Party Take-home Bags

Having a party for a child can be exciting and fun when you have the right materials to put everything together. Most commonly, a childs party will involve things like cups, plates, decorations, banners and entertainment. Almost always, there is also a special treat given out to the children who attend the party as well. These treats are often placed in party bags for the children to take home. The bags can be any kind of material, can contain sweets and candies or toys and usually match the overall theme of the party. Children always look forward to getting these take home party favors when they attend parties and they can also create a lasting impression for the attending childs parents as well.
Party bags come in many varieties and options that you can choose from. Plastic, satin and paper are some of the material choices available. They can also be small, medium, large or oversized bags depending on what you intend to put in them. Additionally, you have the option to purchase party bags that already have designs and ones that are clear or solid colored.

The cost of party bags will vary according to what material, design and amount that you are buying. For larger parties, you can always buy in bulk from wholesalers in order to get a nice discount. Even smaller quantities can be reasonable in cost though. For plastic and paper bags, you will usually have the option of buying in packs of 5 to 30.

Some of the more fancy materials such as satin will come in smaller quantities including single bags that are sold individually. There are almost a limitless amount of possibilities that you can do with your party bags once you have them. If you know how many girls and boys will be attending the party, you can make them extra special by creating gender specific bags. You can do this by using pink colored ties on the girls bags and blue ties for the boys. The toys inside can also be gender specific and mixed with an array of different candies. Clear plastic bags are great for gender coordinating and can be easily made to match with any party theme or decor. Satin party bags are popular for little girls parties and can be adorned with jewels, ribbons and bows to add a special girly touch.

When you get ready to buy your childrens party bags, you should take into consideration the theme of the party, the number of children attending and the items that you will put inside. This way, you will know exactly what you need when you go shopping. Use your imagination and you can create unique party bags that will leave parents and children with a party highlight they will remember for some time to come.

Park Gilo Heaven For Kids

Park Gilo Heaven For Kids

In Park Gilo, a shady forest alongside the residential neighborhood of the same name in southern Jerusalem, Jerusalemites nearly yearround will pack up the kids, break out the portable barbecue grills and take the opportunity to spend the day outdoors.

The smells of grilling chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs and the sounds of conversations and children shouting in Hebrew, English, Yiddish, Arabic and French indicate just how widely used the park is by Jerusalemites of all types.

Shady wonderland

Park Gilo is one of Jerusalem`s lesser known attractions, mostly due to it`s location off the beaten track, away from the city center. There are separate playgrounds for babies/toddlers and older kids, a smooth rollerblade track and a wire climbing structure unlike anything I`ve seen anyplace else.

There`s also a tennis and basketball court, and a stunning walking track overlooking the Malcha neighborhood and the Gilo forest. To the west, the panoramic view of the Jerusalem hills overlooks the Refaim Valley and the Jerusalem-Bet Shemesh train line.

“I can`t say we come here all the time,” said Malkiel, a transplanted New Yorker who has lived in the German Colony neighborhood for nearly a decade, “but we come a lot. Especially in summer, it`s one of the shadiest spots around, and my three kids spend hours climbing, jumping, swinging and just having a good time.

Speaking during an easy game of catch with nine-year-old son Aviad, Malkiel said the park is often a destination for family cookouts, picnics or hikes, and said the extended family was only too happy to set out for the park when the early morning fog burned off Wednesday morning. Aviad was too busy playing football to speak to Go Jerusalem.

My five-year-old son, Idan, a native of Jerusalem, gave a slightly more energetic description of the afternoon`s activities: “I went on the big slide and climbed up again and saw you standing down there kicking the football with Gilad (his older brother). Then I ran around and around and around and wanted to play with the other kids. Can I have a drink, please?”

That about sums it up.

– Andrew Friedman

Childrens Allowance And The Connection To High Self Esteem

Childrens Allowance And The Connection To High Self Esteem

Money is something everyone wants. It is something we are all looking to earn, hoping to make more of and never seem to have enough. Teaching our kids how to handle money is something parents should think about while the kids are young. It helps in their development, and will teach them to save and not throw their hard earned money away. Childrens allowance feeds their self confidence and self esteem. Earning it and learning to control it gives them a sense of power and offers them choices in their own lives.

Kids learn how to build their work ethics. If they are allowed to earn money for chores and other incidentals, it motivates them to do the best work possible. It teaches them that they will be compensated for a job well done. Money makes us all feel valued and kids are no different.

Kids who earn their own money on a regular basis find that they are able to make some of their own choices. They have a little power as they have the opportunity to decide how they spend their money and how much they can save.

There are many great learning opportunities when kids are earning money. They have the chance to make decisions such as how much to save, how much to spend and when to lend money to someone else. All these lessons build character and will make them stronger as they get older.

They learn that if they really want something, they can plan for it. They find that time is on their side and saving their money will get them where they want to be.

Parents who pay childrens allowance are creating people who will learn to be responsible as adults. They will learn the lessons of savings, why it is important and how to save on a regular basis to keep their savings growing. They will learn to value their money and in turn, they will value themselves.

Do Pitbulls Get Along With Kids

Do Pitbulls Get Along With Kids

I often get asked if pitbulls are good with kids, and the answer in short is yes.

But just like with any breed of dogs there are some basic rules you need to follow. Here are 5 basic things to consider about your dog and kids.

1) Always supervise interaction between pit bulls and kids

NEVER leave a child alone with a dog. This goes for any dog. Even if it’s a puppy. This is for both the child’s and the dogs safety.

If you read through articles of pit bull attacks online where children were hurt, maimed or worse, killed by a Pit Bull you will notice that in 99% of the cases they were left alone with the dog or dogs involved.

This should be a rule rather than a tip. Use common sense and care. Small children especially should never be unsupervised around dogs.

2) Watch the child’s behaviour

Watch the children’s behaviour. This tip is more for the dogs safety than the child’s. Children can be brutal and even in the face of such harsh treatment, well bred, responsibly owned Pit Bulls are not prone to biting or “attacking” in defense.

Make sure every child that plays with your dog understands how to behave around them. They should know to respect your dog and it’s space and other things like toys, food, water, or their special bed.

3) Make sure all your dogs prized items are put away

Ah, nothing like a kid running around with a dried bully stick in their hands. lol. Not only is this nasty, your dog will want their bully stick back and attempt to get it. And in the process they could nip a finger or two.

Put all your dogs favorite toys and treats away and where children can’t get a hold of them to be on the safe side.

To clarify, it wouldn’t’ be out of malice or viciousness the dog would get a finger or two. It would be by accident, an accident that can easily be avoided by putting such things away.

4) Start taking Obedience classes

If you’re not already training your dog in basic obedience. Start as soon as possible.

Having an obedient Pit Bull will help when kids are around. Not to mention adults as well.

Teaching your dog to sit so they can be pet, laying down when things get a bit to rowdy, or to do a silly trick to lighten the tension of an over cautious parent is always a great idea.

5) Never Force your dog into a situation that makes them uncomfortable

Some dogs simply get weird around certain people. Don’t force the issue and make your dog say “hello” or play with someone they are showing signs of apprehension around.

Honestly, there is no reason to think that the pitbull is more dangerous with kids than any other dog. There’s no problem with pitbulls and kids.

Using Kangaroo Mother Care Tips For Parents To Keep Post Natal Depression Away

Using Kangaroo Mother Care Tips For Parents To Keep Post Natal Depression Away

Tips for parents about the use of Kangaroo Mother Care in warding off PND are helpful in helping to ease a Mother and her newborn through their beginning life together. When a woman is pregnant, her body releases a variety of hormones. These hormones help to improve nutritional digestion, redirect energy toward cell development, and of course trigger labor and delivery. With the birth of her baby there is a change in hormonal balance and lifes priorities, which can result in PND, or post natal depression.

Since the body has already been naturally carrying a baby in a kangaroo-like state it is normal for a Mothers body to adjust and provide KMC outside of the womb, having that similar closeness. It’s extremely healthy for a newborn baby to transition into the world in this way. After all, the baby has been inside the Mothers womb being carried in a very similar fashion to the kangaroo caring.

A tip for parents about the use of Kangaroo Mother Care to reduce the onset of Postnatal Depression is to be aware that helps to increase the release of happy hormones that promote feelings of love. It’s great for a Mom to use Kangaroo Mother Care in nurturing her baby and at the same time look after the way she is feeling as well.

There are different tips for parents using KMC when it comes to sleeping. Advocates of KMC encourage sleeping with a baby in this position. The Kangaroo Mother Care position requires the mother to sleep in a prone position that actually makes it very difficult to potentially do any harm to her newborn. Some experts even recommend that Mothers sleep sitting up. Every parent has to determine for themselves what is best for them and their baby.

As for tips for parents about the use of KMC as therapeutic in warding of PND, it is a very beneficial method of preventing postnatal depression. Kangaroo Mother Care has untold benefits and it is important for every parent to work out what works best for them and their baby in preventing the onset of postnatal depression.

Is My Child Using Drugs Or Alcohol Parenting Advice

Is My Child Using Drugs Or Alcohol Parenting Advice

One of the most frightening experience parents can face is the discovery of drug and alcohol use by their child. This can happen to even the very best parents out there. Drug and alcohol abuse are serious issues which require immediate intervention. Early detection can ensure a less complicated recovery process. Prolonged drug or alcohol use can lead to disruptive or even antisocial behaviors, criminal activity, and the abuse of more dangerous drugs.

There can be many reasons for children turning to drugs or alcohol. Peer pressure can certainly be influential; but usually there are underlying reasons which made the child susceptible to the peer pressure and willing to try drug or alcohol consumption in the first place. Children who are victims of bullying by peers, or who suffer from shyness may seek out drugs or alcohol as a refuge. The use of drugs and alcohol may also make him or her feel more accepted socially.

Identifying the problem is the first step in getting help for your child in a drug addiction treatment program. The most common outward signs of drug or alcohol use are:

Mood swings Pre-teens and teens experience a lot of mood swings as their bodies develop; but if your child moves quickly from very happy feelings to great anger, theres a good reason to investigate further. Expressed paranoid feelings may also raise a red flag.

New friends The arrival of new friends without an association to your childs current circle can be a warning sign. This can be especially true if you should also notice a change in your childs behavior.

Trouble at school If your childs grades have worsened, or there are sudden patterns of behavior problems, truancy or lateness, he or she may be using.

Major personality changes If your child becomes withdrawn, secretive, combative, listless, forgetful, or lethargic, he or she may be using.

Changes in eating habits A general loss of interest in eating, or increased interest may be equally notable. Look for sudden weight loss or gain.

Changes in sleeping habits or schedule major increases in sleep time or insomnia can be signs of alcohol or drug abuse.

Unusual appearance Red or bloodshot eyes, appearing hung over or listless may indicate substance abuse.

Once your child is in a drug addiction treatment program, the underlying issues can be addressed to prevent a return to bad habits. Behavioral counseling will help your child identify the causes of their self-destructive behavior, and to learn to deal with them in a healthier way. As much love, understanding, and acceptance as you can give will be needed to help in the healing process.
